The past couple of years have been far from an ideal time for Chelsea fans. Despite spending over a billion pounds on transfers since Todd Boehly became the owner of the club, results and performances have been inconsistant to say the least.

There's been a major overhaul in the dressing room, with the side who won the Champions League in 2021, now a distant memory. From the victorious squad, only three remain at the club.

Since Mauricio Pochettino's arrrival, the club have struggled for results and with constant rotation around the starting XI, it's clear that the Argentinian manager is still trying to work out what his best side really is.

The 2023/24 season so far has had few positives, but the performances of Conor Gallagher have been a rare bright spark for Chelsea, but that could soon be over.

Gallagher linked with move from Chelsea to London rivals

With Reece James hampered by injury yet again this season, Conor Gallagher has wore the armband for most of the campaign. Alongside Cole Palmer, he has been one of the team's best performers.

According to reports, the academy graduate could be sold in the January transfer window in an attempt to balance the books due to Financial Fair Play regulations.

Jamie Carragher took to X upon hearing of the proposed deal, and it's clear that many Chelsea fans will feel the same as the former Liverpool defender.

With the club crying out for consistant performances and results, selling your arguably best performer and midfield main stay has angered many supporters.

While negotiations are in an advanced stage, Graeme Bailey from 90min is reporting that Chelsea's valuation of the player sits above the €50 million mark and that Conor Gallagher would prefer to stay at Stamford Bridge.

It's likely to be a controversial transfer should a deal be made between the clubs, and one that will make Chelsea's resurgance back towards the top end of the table a lot more difficult.
