There's nothing like a good jersey power ranking, and after being inspired by some of the stuff we've seen from the Irish athletes over in Baku, we decided to provide an answer to a question that nobody asked...
Which sport has the best Ireland jersey?
Having searched high and low for decent pictures of Irish team jerseys we've found seven sports that have official jerseys to represent this grand island.
#8 - Cricket
Pros: It looks comfortable?
Cons: Lime green, navy.
The official Irish jersey for the cricket World Cup is certainly attention grabbing, but it's just not traditional enough for us.
#7 - Cycling
Pros: Ireland flags, shamrock design.
Cons: Will infuriate motorists, navy, feels like I'm wearing nothin' at all.
New Balance have done a pretty good job for the Baku European Games by and large, we're just not big into cycling jerseys.
#6 - Handball
Pros: Paul Brady wins a lot in it, inoffensive design, tourism advertising.
Cons: Random brackets
#5 - Basketball
Pros: Sleeveless, cool font, simplicity.
Cons: -
Nothing wrong with the BBall jersey as seen on the ladies competeing in 3v3 basketball in Baku, but we'd love to see a green one.
#4 - Soccer
Pros: Simplicity, collar.
Cons: Almost identical to rugby jersey.
A rather boring Ireland jersey, but it does look well.
#3 - Rugby
Pros: Tiny shamrocks, collar, durable.
Cons: Almost identical to football jersey.
A welcome return to Canterbury for the IRFU after the Puma experiment. Not bad.
#2 - International rules/Shinty
Pros: Faded design, nice sponsor, green and orange on the shoulders.
Cons: -
The international rules jersey is an absolute beut, and is unlucky to miss out on top spot.
#1 - Hockey
Pros: 3 stripes, simplicity, neck.
Cons: -
The mens hockey jersey is so damn nice that it makes us wish the FAI would agree a deal with Adidas. Lovely.
