Michael Van Gerwen won his third Grand Slam of Darts in a row on Sunday as he dispatched of Peter Wright having successfully navigated Phil Taylor in the semis at Wolverhampton's Civic Hall.
Taylor pissed off a lot of darts fans with his arrogance after defeating Derry's Daryl Gurney on Saturday, and when he tried similar antics against Van Gerwen he was met with a perfect response from the Dutchman before he continued to comfortably win 16-8.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, MVG spilled the beans on what happened between himself and Taylor, as he explained that when Taylor tried to have a go at him for taking a sip of his water, Van Gerwen called him a 'knob'.
He tried a few of his tricks, what he always does. In the break I wasn’t allowed to cheer from my own throw. I don’t know why when I finished a 74.
What can I say? Honestly, you want to know honestly? I just walked off, had a little nip of my drink.
He came to me ‘you shouldn’t do this, you shouldn’t do that’.
I just said ‘you’re a knob’ again, that’s exactly what I said.
Then he was annoyed at what I said, I don’t know why but something always happens in-between our games, after or before.
Well said, Michael.
Van Gerwen is not only the world champ, but the people's champ as well. The final was a much more civil affair, but the outcome was ultimately the same as MVG won by a score of 16-12, adding to his World Championship and Premier League titles.
