The BBC's coverage of the World Gymnastics Championships on Wednesday has been criticised for one of the most bizarre bits of casual racism this side of the 1950s. Mitch Fenner was commentating on the men's team event when the camera panned to a couple of Chinese fans in the crowd.
Fenner then proceeded to put on his best Chinese accent before coming out with this:
Oh wowww, they say, look at that, we're from China.

As tends to happen with incidents like this, Fenner was quickly picked up on his faux pas and the BBC have been forced to issue the following slap on the wrist.
The commentator has been advised that the tone of his commentary on this occasion might be considered offensive to some people, which he has acknowledged.
