The drama on Day 5 at Alexander Palace built to a crescendo with a remarkable finish to the first-round clash between Devon Petersen and Wayne Jones. Petersen did, eventually, win the game 3-2, but only after a remarkably wobbly finish as neither player could finish the match off as the tension ratcheted up to nearly-unbearable levels.
South African Petersen had multiple chances to seal the match, but ultimately missed seven match darts; a profligacy that would have been costly had Jones not missed six match darts of his own.
