After Ellen Keane secured Ireland's first medal of the World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships in Dublin yesterday evening, Nicole Turner has doubled that tally this evening in the Women's 50m Butterfly S6 Final.
Among a highly competitive field, Turner finished with a flourish. Although she would always have hoped to be among the medals, her second-placed finish brings Ireland a silver medal to go with Keane's bronze yesterday.
Coming in just behind Great Britain's Eleanor Robinson, the crowd were out in force in support of the Irish swimmer, and they were not disappointed.
Speaking after her race, Turner acknowledged the debt of gratitude she owed to the crowd for their support, and her delight at having exceeded her pre-final expectations.
Now that’s a beaming smile!! Congrats to our silver medalist!! #Dublin2018 ☘️🇮🇪💪🏼 pic.twitter.com/Ig2SpCAhIE
