The start to Michael Van Gerwen's first appearance at this year's PDC World Darts Championship was delayed owing to the kind of eejitry rampant at the Alexandra Palace. A fan threw his pint over Van Gerwen as the Dutchman walked out to the arena, forcing him to return to the changing rooms to change his shirt with opponent Alan Tabern waiting at the oche.
The lights remained dimmed and Van Gerwen's walk-in song played on loop while he changed, before eventually returning more than five minutes behind schedule.
Sky Sports caught footage of the moment Van Gerwen was drenched.

Van Gerwen was visibly emotional on his return, and apologised to Tabern.
After that? Van Gerwen got down to business and won the first set 3-1. He is on course for a second-round appearance against Max Hopp, who whitewashed Danny Noppert earlier today.
