All eyes were on Ally Pally for what was billed as a dream final between reigning PDC Darts world champion Gary Anderson and world number one Michael van Gerwen was played out on Monday night.
After the thrilling semi-final match between MVG and Raymond van Berneveld, which saw van Gerwen produce one of the all time great performances to storm ahead and relentlessly book his place in the final, some would have expected a close contest with Anderson involved.
But Michael van Gerwen didn't think so. MVG was simply untouchable after the third set, as after levelling the scores at 2-2 he once again kicked into overdrive and didn't look back, eventually taking the title with a final score of 7-3.
And darts fans everywhere were quick to heap praise on the Dutchman, debating whether or not he is the best to ever play the game based on the manner in which he has been performing of late.
