In the heat of an almighty battle between Ireland and Spain in this afternoon's semi-final of the Women's Hockey World Cup, Lola Riera produced something quite remarkable.
With Spain one missed penalty away from being knocked out of the World Cup, Riera, facing off against Ireland's Ayeisha McFerran, attempted the improbable - lobbing the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.
Over two penalty shoot-outs at this World Cup, McFerran has proved to be an invaluable asset; keeping out seven of the ten penalties she has faced.
Demonstrating no small amount of ingenuity (and courage), Riera found a better way of overcoming these troubling odds.
What a brilliant, brilliant battle that and when the heat was at its absolute highest, Lola Riera did this. Hats off to the Spaniard #HWC2018 #RTEsport pic.twitter.com/mIyZoBU7rH

Drawing the praise of even Ireland's head coach Graham Shaw as he nervously watched on from the sidelines, irrespective of Ireland's eventual win, this really was something a bit special.
