History is rife with stories of important decisions made by public vote being ruined by the humour of those voting. In Ireland, we are really good at it, evidenced by the fact that former Middlesbrough full-back Ronnie O'Brien was in the running to be voted TIME's Man of the Century and the moment when the BBC were forced to announce 'A Nation Once Again' as the world's favourite song following a public poll in 2002.
It appears the world are belatedly catching on to this great craft of the Irish character, with the news earlier this week that a new, £200 million Arctic research vessel would be given a title by a public vote. The vote was opened by the Natural Environment Research Council, and the top result was by some distance Boaty McBoatface, finishing ahead of the likes of Endeavour, Henry Worsley, David Attenborough, Falcon, It's Bloody Cold Here and NotTheTitanic. Such an excellent response to a public poll has invigorated the world, and WWE star John Cena is among the options for the latest hijacking of a public vote.
The Robert E. Lee Elementary school in Austin, Texas in the United States (presumably unconnected with former Newcastle United footballer Rob Lee) is changing its name, and have invited submissions from the public. Here are a select few:

Schoolie McShoolface is once again a perfectly good name, but we quite like the idea of our children graduating from John Cena Elementary School.
