Dublin hosted Ireland's first very Ironman 70.3 today, with nearly 2,500 crazy athletes taking part. The triathlon - which is over double the Olympic distance Triathlon brought some great pictures of joy at the finish line, and some very tired bodies.
It looks like the event was received well, and should hopefully stay and grow with future Dublin and Ireland events in the future. Do you think you could manage it?
Niall Breslin aka ex Leinster academy player also known as Bressie was among those to take part in an impressive time of five hours and seven minutes. To put that into context, when I was insane I ran this distance in eight hours and 31 minutes, more than two hours behind the eventual winner on the day I did it.
5.07 and that's my #ironmandublin great day & great crowd!!! Thanks for all the support pic.twitter.com/gCanRoHGaZ

The winner was Denis Chevrot from France, coming in at an absurdly good four hours and one minute, and here are the best photos from the day from Sportsfile.

The crowds were out in force for high-fives at the end of the gruelling "longer-than-a-marathon" event, and clearly Chevrot is just happy to be nearly finished:
Clearly the poor lad was so tired he forgot that liquid would spill out over his head:
The women's victor, Susie Cheetham, was so tired she didn't even realise that she was spilling her recovery beverage:
This is what the Ironman 70.3 is all about though:
Those happy faces:
The pure exhaustion:
The poor lad is so hungry after that that he's trying to eat his medal:
That's what happens when you are crazy enough to do an Ironman. Well done to everyone who finished.
