The Senior Girls 1500m Steeplechase at the 2018 Irish Life Health All-Ireland Schools' Finals provided an incredible finish today as Carrigaline's Alannah Neff somehow beat Clontarf's Aoibhinn McGoldrick on the line, despite being dead and buried with 20 metres to go.
Neff fell at the third to last hurdle after leading for much of the race, and looked to be consigned to second place after McGoldrick opened up a 10 metre lead following the fall.
But Neff immediately got to her feet and chased after McGoldrick, showing incredible heart to work her way back into contention.
Neff was breathing down her opponents neck heading int the final stretch and McGoldrick was clearly tiring, and in a scarcely believable finish, Neff managed to just pip her competitor to the finishing line to cap an astounding comeback.
