Olympic silver medalist Annalise Murphy has revealed she is to miss next week's World Championships in the Netherlands.
Just over a year after becoming only the third Irish woman to win an Olympic medal, the 27-year-old will not be able to compete in the Laser Radial World Championships.
Last month, Murphy won gold at the Moths World Championship, but suffered an injury in Italy. It looks like the knee injury sustained at Lake Garda has forced her withdrawal from her major event of 2017.
Releasing a statement on Friday morning, Murphy's focus is on the long-term goal of the Olympics in 2020 in Tokyo.
I have to to look at the big picture and I have 3 years until Tokyo so getting my knee right is the most important thing at the moment.
Despite her second-placed finish in Brazil last year, Murphy has never medalled in the World Championships, with sixth and eighth-placed finishes, being her best results.
While the injury has come at the most inopportune of times, the Dubliner will be relieved it does not effect her "big picture" of three years time.
