Four years ago was the first real Olympics of the social media era.
It became easier for fans across the globe to consume how the Olympics were covered in other countries. With both arms, Americans embraced RTÉ's coverage of the Olympic basketball tournament. That was due to one man - Timmy 'Downtown' McCarthy.
Videos of McCarthy's commentary - which featured boundless - were shared innumerable times.
On Saturday evening, McCarthy returned to our TV screens as Australia took on France and the USA played China.
