The morning action of Day Two saw a number of Irish in action and again, the results have been mixe. Let's run through what happened while you were sleeping.

Ireland overnight on day two at the 2020 Olympics

Rowing

Sanita Puspure won her quarterfinal race, beating the US's Kara Kohler into second. This might have important for Puspure as Kohler had beaten her last time out at the Lucerne World Cup. Puspure will race in the first semifinal on Wednesday morning with the gold medal favourite from Russia beside her. The rest of the field shouldn't trouble the top two.  She told RTE she wasn't happy with start and there's room for improvement.

The lightweight double of Cremen and Casey raced well to finish 3rd in their repechage and are also through to the semis. They've a much tougher task to make the final with the Dutch crew expected to be first.

The women's pair of Crowley and Dukarska also finished 3rd to qualify for the semi finals. As with the lightweight doubles, they haven't really suggested they'll trouble the leading contenders here.

The men's double of Byrne and Doyle are out of medal contention. The former world silver medalists were last in their semi final and quite a distance behind the qualifying three. They'll race in the B final for 7th to 12th place.

This morning races have ensured that all 6 Irish boats that went to Tokyo will finish in the top 12, with 3 of them still in strong contention for medals.

Sailing

The silver medalist from Rio Annalise Murphy has had a poor opening race in the Laser Radial, finishing 35th of 44 sailors. Some of the main medal favourites also struggled in the conditions but Murphy will need to discard this score if she wants to be in medal contention again. The second race was delayed because of the wind conditions but Murphy improved significantly when it did get underway and finished 12th.  Without the discard score she’s in 23rd overall after day one.

Canoeing

Liam Jegou missed a gate in his first run (resulting in a 50 second penalty) after a promising start and finished in last place as a result. He didn’t make any huge mistakes in the second run though and qualified for the semi in 11th place. Top 10 qualify for the final in the semi so he doesn’t need to find much improvement.

Gymnastics

Megan Ryan acquitted herself very well in her Olympic debut. The Cork woman began with 10.466 on the balance beam. Her floor routine earned her 12.000 and she followed with 13.000 in the vault. Her final event was the uneven bars where she scored 11.533. Megan won't be involved in the finals but we won't know her all around ranking until this afternoon.

Still to come today

Emmet Brennan makes his Olympic debut in boxing at light heavyweight with a tough bout against Dilshod Ruzmetov of Uzbekistan. Danielle Hill swims in the 100m backstroke while former World Junior Champion Mona McSharry goes in the 100m breaststroke. Heike Holstein will compete in her fourth Olympics, but her first since 2004, in dressage with her mare Sambuca.
