Inspirational Moment As Maracana Rises To Roar On Paralympic Torch Bearer

The opening ceremony of the Paralympics took place at the Maracana on Wednesday night.

Over 11 days, 4,300 competitors will take part in the Games - 48 of them Irish.

During last night's ceremony, Marcia Malsar - a member of the 1984 Brazilian Paralympic team - was tasked with transporting the Paralympic torch along with Antônio Delfino and Ádria Rocha.

Maslar fell to the floor while carrying the torch. Undeterred, and aided by a huge roar from the Maracana crowd, she got back to her feet, continuing her journey around the stadium.

It was an inspirational moment.
