Katie Taylor's defeat to Finland's Mira Potkonen is the latest - and perhaps greatest - disappointment in the boxing ring at these Rio Olympics. The defeat was controversial: Zaur Antia told RTE that Katie clearly won the fight, claiming the first, third and four rounds clearly went the way of Katie, while he admitted the third round was very close.
Paddy Barnes tweeted that the judges were "shit", while Andy Lee tweeted that he felt Katie was "robbed".
Regardless of the mixed feelings caused by the nature of the defeat, and the multitude of background reasons which may have contributed to the defeat - the absences of Billy Walsh and her father Pete will be under serious scrutiny over the following days - what is beyond doubt is the level of despondency felt by most of the country right now.
To misquote a better man: disappointment is general across the country.
