Ireland lost 3-2 to India in their opening game of the Olympic hockey tournament.
After being down 2-0 at half time, Ireland scored twice in the second half. The first came from John Jermyn but Rupinder Pal Singh soon restored India's two goal advantage.
Five minutes from the end, Irish hopes were lifted through Conor Harte.
It was a goal which featured a super piece of skill and improvisation from Harte. After a corner, Harte nutmegged an opposition player before getting a fortuitous deflection which allowed him to volley to the net.
An equaliser very nearly came from Ireland at the death when a Shane O'Donoghue flick went just inches past the post.
