French gymnast Samir Ait Said suffered a horror leg break during qualifying on Saturday.
The 26-year-old snapped his leg just below his left knee on landing during the men's qualification event.
According to the Mirror, the French team leader said that Said had broken his tibia.
He is in the hospital with a doctor now.
We don't know what happened, except that it was his tibia. We will do more exams to see if it just the bone.
It is very difficult for the team. He was one of the friendliest on the team which is very difficult - he came to win a medal and gave everything 200 per cent.
Such was the shock felt by his teammates, Danny Pinheiro Rodrigues - who was scheduled to vault after Said - chose not to participate.
While leaving the arena on a stretcher, Said was given a standing ovation by the crowd.
