RTÉ sports commentator Jimmy Magee sadly passed away at the age of 82.
On Radio One's Morning Ireland, colleague Des Cahill paid tribute to Magee.
Magee started with the national broadcaster in 1956, working at 11 Olympic Games and 12 World Cups. Cahill and Magee's RTÉ careers had a lengthy overlap.
I actually followed Jimmy as presenter of Sunday Sport. As a young fellow, that was my favourite programme by a distance on radio with Jimmy as the presenter. I never in my wildest dreams thought that I'd follow him in the programme.
An emotional Cahill remembered a friend who was 'unbelievable craic'.
Everybody knows Jimmy's personality and warmth but to travel with him, he was unbelievable craic. He was a pure rogue for trying to get a laugh going with a group on a trip away.
He was kind to the youngsters coming along. He was known by all the families of the sportsmen and women.
He was a family fan but the big thing I remember him for was the fun. He had a cheeky kind of humour. He'd set you up big time if he could.
Magee famously had a remarkable recall for sporting facts and trivia, earning him the nickname 'The Memory Man'. Cahill said this had its roots in a genuine passion for sport.
The Memory Man thing stemmed from his love of sport. You get people who will learn of subjects. With sport it's different, you don't have to learn sport, Jimmy had a passion for it.
