The Irish 4x100m team of Molly Scott, Gina Akpe-Moses, Ciara Neville and Patience Jumbo-Gula have secured a silver medal after a brilliant performance at the IAAF World U20 Championships.
The result marks Ireland's first ever relay medal at the championships and is the latest successful venture in the blossoming story that is underage Irish athletics.

Molly Scott had started brightly and approached the last change Ireland were in a promising position. However, there was a delay with change over yet Patience Jumbo-Gula powered home and almost caught the German team before the line.

Prior to today's race, Ireland have won just two medals in the history of the World U20 Championships. Speaking on commentary, Derval O'Rourke hailed the monumental achievement.
These Irish girls have made history. Incredible! Under all the pressure they had coming in here. Absolutely outstanding.
