Over the past few months, we've seen many young Irish talents move to Italy rather than taking the traditional route of going over to England. Ireland U17 captain Cathal Heffernan is now on the loan at AC Milan with a view to a permanent deal after moving from Cork City. Highly-rated winger Kevin Zefi was an integral part of Inter Milan's U17 team last season scoring 6 goals and assisting another 7 during his 18 games.
St.Patrick's Athletic centre back James Abankwah is joining up with Udinese this summer where he will play alongside Enniscorthy native Festy Ebosele who has recently moved from Derby County to the Serie A side.
Neil O'Riordan of the Sun is reporting that Italian outfit Lecce are eager to capture the signature of Shamrock Rovers' youngster Aidomo Emakhu ahead of the new season.
Emakhu burst onto the scene after scoring a stoppage time winner for Stephen Bradley's side during their Europa Conference League first leg tie against Albanian side FK Teuta.
Other potential destinations for Aidomo Emakhu
Lecce have just won promotion back to Serie A after winning Serie B, but according to reports, they will face competition from a number of other European sides to sign Emakhu.
It's being reported that Wolves, Southampton, Celtic and Roma are also eager to sign the Shamrock Rovers forward.
Celtic signed Liam Scales from Shamrock Rovers as well as Johnny Kenny from Sligo Rovers last season and Emakhu could be the next one welcomed to Celtic Park.
Aidomo Emakhu has made 12 appearances for the Hoops this season but has started only two games.
Rovers are sitting eight points clear at the summit of the League of Ireland Premier Division and should they continue the form they've shown so far in 2022, a third league title in a row should await the Tallaght Stadium outfit.
