In Irish sporting terms, there’s nowhere quite like Cork, and so many of Ireland’s greatest sporting achievements have been performed by people from the Rebel County. The roll of legends roll off the tongue - Keano, Sonia, Ring, ROG, JBM, Derval, Sean Óg and on and on.
This week, we’re dedicating to the site to the greatness of Cork sport, reflecting on all things Corkonian, from Dr. Pat O’Callaghan's glory days to Cork Con winning the first All-Ireland League to Roy Keane to Sonia to the O’Donovan brothers.
During Cork Week, we’ll also be holding a public vote to determine which four Cork sportspeople deserve their place on the definitive Cork 'Mount Rushmore'.
There’ll also be a history of Cork sport in 10 objects, profiles of Cork legends like Colin Corkery, interviews with the likes of Dave Barry and Donal Lenihan, a tribute to the heyday of Cork sports broadcasting on Cork Multi Channel and much, much more.
