The pitch in Semple Stadium was packed tight with Tipperary supporters on Monday, following their scintillating All-Ireland victory on Sunday. Not even the charms of Serbia v Ireland in Belgrade could prevent them from saluting the new champions.
The most eye-catching moment from the GAA video of the event was the sight of Bubbles O'Dwyer, who has been pumped up to the max ever since Sunday, leading the crowd on the team in a particular vigorous version of the Viking thunderclap. The modish way of thinking on the internet is that the Viking thunderclap, unless performed ironically, is old hat. But sod that, Monday was a time to have fun.
There was jubilation all around on Monday night. Rarely can there ever been a more satisfying All-Ireland win. As John McGrath said "No one will said we got a soft one anyway."
If we wanted to shit stir, we could claim this as subtle dig at the class of '89, but that would be heinous altogether (and sure most of them won All-Irelands in '91 anyway).
