Before BT Sport and ESPN ever hit upon the idea of analysing matches from the touchline, Micheal O'Domhnaill and the TG4 people were making a virtue out of the absence of a studio and introducing games from the side of the pitch.
The BT/ESPN experiment was a mixed bag. It transpired that the pane of glass separating pundits from fans wasn't entirely unnecessary in the context of football.
A few un-PC chants managed to make it to air and then there was the time when Martin Keown was whacked in the head with a pinpoint strike (from Michael Brown).
Quite how pinpoint it was is in some dispute. Keown said later on that Brown must have been aiming for Robbie Savage, a suggestion which is far from implausible.
So far, the TG4 lads have gotten away with too much shenanigans.
O'Domhnaill and Jarlath Burns were in Castleblayney for the Monaghan county final between Scotstown and Clontibret yesterday.
The Corduff minors had just won the U18 title, and they were determined to get their mugs on television. They succeeded.
When O'Domhnaill re-gathered himself, one Corduff lad came back for more and leapt up on his back. He could only grin and bear it.
Spotters badge to anyone who saw the dab at the end first time.
