Galway vs Mayo was typically frenetic down in Salt Hill today. There were brilliant scores, bookings and huge shoulders, thanks to one D. Comer. In the end Galway beat Mayo by a solitary point. The final whistle came as a relief to Galway fans who had to withstand about 8 mad minutes of added time, where Mayo missed a number of chances to force a replay.
Marty Morrissey and Dessie Dolan were providing commentary for the match on RTE. Following the match, Marty posted footage of himself and Dolan narrating those final breathless minutes of the match, filmed from inside the Pearse Stadium gantry. The video provides a brilliant insight into the wild high's and low's of GAA commentary. Morrissey and Dolan navigate poor sightlines to give their version of the game's dramatic twists and turns as the crowd roar the action on.
Talk about a privileged position to watch a GAA match, even if the lads struggle to see everything.
