Form Guide
Sunday's game will see a new generation of Irish U21s head to Cork in preparation for their European qualifiers. Both Jim Crawford's side and Iceland head into this game in similar positions, with both teams poised to take part in the European Championship qualification play-offs. It will be their first game back in Ireland since they hosted Israel in a bouncing Tallaght Stadium.
The 20-man squad is made up of 13 uncapped players with just seven veterans and includes some of Ireland's most promising prospects like highly-rated Wolves midfielder Joe Hodge and Brighton's Andrew Moran, hopefully, the Irish side will be able to keep the Icelandic Viking claps to a minimum and start off the season well. Out of their last three encounters, Ireland has won just one, beating Iceland 3-1 in 2018. Unfortunately, the two most recent encounters have seen Ireland fall by a goal on both occasions once in Iceland and once in Tallaght.
Despite that, it's a new cycle of U21 football and with an injection of more competitive League of Ireland regular players and genuine Premier League prospects, Tim Crawford will be looking to do the job come Sunday.
