Phil Taylor celebrates 9-darters in a modest fashion these days, so regular have they become.
Back when the BDO still had a reasonable proportion of top darting talent, the BBC used to perpetually re-screen the only ever 9-darter hit at the Lakeside in the twentieth century. It came against Irishman Jack McKenna and was hit by Chinese American Paul Lim in 1990. It was regarded as a historic sporting moment.
They used to roll it out on the BBC the same way they used to show Borg-McEnroe when it was raining at Wimbledon.
Nowadays, with regular tournaments on Sky, 9-darters are so regular as to be mundane. Taylor (who, returning to the year of Paul Lim's exploits, actually won the 1990 World Championship at the Lakeside) hit another one last night against Peter Wright in Sydney.
NINE-DARTER: In case you missed it, @PhilTaylor did THIS at the @SydneyDarts last night! More history. #SydneyDarts https://t.co/fMZhHcqmcR
