World number one Micheal Van Gerwen defeated hometown favourite Simon Whitelock at the Melbourne Invitational Darts Challenge last night, winning 9-8 to take the title. The match had to be paused with the score at 5-1 to Whitelock though as fans in attendance decided to partake in a spot of rioting.
Here's a video from the incident, note the obligatory fancy dress worn by many of those who are hurling chairs.
Dartsjournalist.com reports that Van Gerwen was continually booed and was shaking his head as the throwing of chairs began. Eventually the two players returned to finish the match.
Wasn't this always bound to happen someday?
