One strange dimension of tragedy in the digital age is that the whole world can often track the weeks, days and minutes before said tragedy occurs. We were really saddened to flip on the laptop this morning and learn about Corkman Paraic Casey, who the Irish Independent speculate suffered a heart attack 1km from the French coast yesterday. His wife Riana was livetweeting the swim from a nearby boat and the @swimpc Twitter feed exists as a diary of the smim, before Casey became ill.
The photo above is Casew swimming through the night (he's the green light, the white light is a lighthouse). He also kept a blog of his training preparations for the swim. It also features the Zen proverb 'Move and the way will open' and info on how to donate to Marymount Hospice and St Vincent De Pail, the charities that Casey was doing the swim for. A donation to either would be an excellent way to honour the man.
