The great and good were gathered in Cahirciveen at the weekend for the highlight of the sporting calender, the donkey derby.
The derby reached new heights this year with two jockeys almost tossed from their horses. The event was attended by the country's leading politicians and the island's most powerful businessmen (maybe not).
The event was reminiscent of the famous Castletown derby of 1994 - an event which has acquired an almost mythical status in Irish life.
