Things have cooled down now at the Convention Centre as the cameras have departed and the pint-swilling fans have drifted off. I often wonder at this point whether McGregor and Aldo head backstage, shake each others hands and say 'thank God that bullshit is over'.
The 'scenes' witnessed at the press conference included
- McGregor nabbing the belt from under Aldo's nose
- An American marketing student grabbing the microphone and asking Dana White for an internship
- McGregor, in his other guise as Irish Minister for Sport, saying we need to build an 150,000 seater stadium (as with Donagh O'Malley announcing free education in 1967, it appears he did not consult his cabinet colleagues before making this announcement)
- And young Nate 'the great' Kelly making a name for himself
The ceaseless baiting of the Brazilian world champ has now ended, Dana White can whip off the Ireland jersey and everyone can chill out again.
The reaction to the event has been far from universally positive, with the words 'cringey' and 'embarrassing' being prominent among the commentary.
Irish fans are the best around but bandwagon fans and some of there questions are shamefull

If that's what UFC engenders, it'll be a sad day if Croke Park hosts it.

If UFC comes to Croke Park, this chap needs to come back. pic.twitter.com/Wv1rDOlfDq — Kieran Cunningham (@KCsixtyseven) March 31, 2015
It started well, but got embarrassing very quickly. Aldo was well within his rights to be pissed off. #UFCWorldTour pic.twitter.com/sPf541I8uZ

@Deebobstar I think he's an arsehole in a circus, which has dubious claims to being a proper sport. As for Irishness: don't care. — Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) March 31, 2015
I honestly hope Jose Aldo beats the shit out of Conor McGregor. His antics are boring now.

#McGregor and his fans are pure dirt, slightly ashamed to be Irish listening to that scutter. Hope #Aldo kills him. #UFCWorldTour — John Fogarty (@johnfogarty2011) March 31, 2015
McGregor is a great showman & fighter. Most of those that got the mic are not. Cringe worthy at times. Gave up watching.

Conor McGregor represents some of the great things about being Irish, but those drunken louts in the crowd do not #Embarrassing — Dean Cullen (@TheCulll) March 31, 2015
Any chance the British media would claim McGregor as one of their own? #embarrassing #tool #McGregor
— Roscommunist (@Roscommunist) March 31, 2015
Anybody else want Conor #McGregor to lose versus Aldo? Totally ungracious and embarrassing. And his fans are worse. #UFC — GARY LYNCH (@GARYLYNCHFIX) March 31, 2015
That McGregor v Aldo fan Q&A was horrifically embarrassing. Too many people just being handed a mic to shout abuse.
