It's been raining goals this August over in England. That equates to a bit of fun if you're play fantasy football. The weekend gone by provided plenty of glee for those who spotted the blistering starts from Michu and Hazard and plenty of angst for those of who expecting the arrival of Van Persie to light a fire in the robust belly of one Wayne Rooney. At least I didn't have rooney and Shay Given. Here's my review of the best and worst from Fantasy Football this week.
Studs:
Michu: The classic 'lights Fantasy up for two weeks, price goes through the roof, then I pick him and he goes to pot for six months until I drop and then starts magically scoring again' midfielder.
Hazard:: The classic 'incredible midfielder who does his metatarsal the week I pick him' midfielder. Note to Fantasy people: Chelsea are off this week, so wait seven days before picking up Hazard and Ivanovic if you haven't yet.
Kone: Best hair in the Premier League and soon-to-be can't-miss points hoover with Victor Moses gone to Chelsea. Trust us.
Duds:
Rooney: Thanks for nothing, buddy. The chickens came home to roost for anyone dumb enough to pick Rooney this season and make him captain. People like myself. Rooney provided an utterly calamitous performance - subbed on for 27 minutes, skies his one decent shot over the bar, and then becomes victim of a gash that might mean two months on the sidelines. Do the smart thing and drop him and pick up RVP.
Shay Given: He somehow managed 2 points for his worst goalkeeping performances since he last played for Ireland. I've got Shay being dropped to the Villa bench pencilled in for mid-November. Guzan is waiting in the wings.
City defenders + Joe Hart: This same cast of characters was once so reliable. It's like watching 'Hangover 2'. The faces are the same but everything about it is wrong.
Fantasy mystery: Dembele. Has there been a bigger gulf between a player's actual value to a team and his football playing ability? Dembele is a seriously creative, 'don't take your eyes off him when he has the ball' midfielder and he has a total of 5 fantasy points despite the fact that Fulham have 7 goals in 2 games. Totally bizarre. A classy owner will pick him despite the fact that he doesn't deliver the points.
