I'm in Vancouver for the first time and I'm told it's the best time ever to be here. It's Stanley Cup Final time, the be all and end all in Hockey, there is only one hockey here.
Seeing one city so involved in one sport is something, yes they have a decent MLS soccer team here but that's in the ha'penny place when it comes to the love of the puck.
As with most Canadian cities you see a lot of pale irish skin but over here more often than not, these sun hungry bodies are hidden in the blue and white of an oversized Vancouver Canucks jersey. No doubt you will see the maroon of Westmeath and the green and gold of Kerry return to the streets but as Vancouver stands on the verge of their first Stanley Cup, the sight of two Hurley holding hockey fans yesterday made for interesting viewing.
It's a whole different puck, but maybe they can reopen the ice rink in Phibsboro and get things started.
