Ted Hankey lost 5-0 to Michael van Gerwen in the World Grand Slam of Darts last week. He did not appear well during the loss, constantly rubbing his eyes and appearing unbalanced as he stepped up to the oche.
There was much speculation online that he had been drunk during the match but it turns out that Hankey has a mini stroke.
Hankey's agent said:
Ted had a transient ischaemic attack. The symptoms are that the face may fall on one side, causing mouth or eye to droop, may not be able to raise arms due to weakness, may have slurred speech, sudden loss of vision, dizziness, balance and co-ordination problems.
Hankey will take 6-8 weeks rest before returning to action next year.
