Young Dublin Runner Gets Spot At World Championships After IAAF Invite

Ireland's team for next month's World Athletics Championships has grown to 12.

Athletics Ireland announced on Friday morning that Dundrum South Dublin athlete Siofra Cleirigh-Buttner has accepted an invitation to compete in the 800m in London.

Siofra Cleirigh-Buttner (DSD) has been added to the Irish team for the World Championships in London via the IAAF Roll-Down Process.

Cleirigh-Buttner will run in the 800m having accepted an invitation from the IAAF to compete under their quota system. The DSD and Villanova athlete finished 7th at the recent European U23 Championships.

Cleirigh-Buttner, who turned 22 just last week, becomes the third female member of the Ireland team in addition to Ciara Mageean, who runs in the 1500m, and Claire McCarthy, who will compete in the marathon.
