Clare's hat-trick hero Shane O'Donnell has said his second cousin Niall Donoghue – who sadly died on Wednesday night – was an 'inspiration'.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, the 19-year-old Clare hurler has said Niall was someone he looked up to when he was growing up:
'I always looked up to him as my inspiration, like 'I can do that if he can' kind of thing.
'Niall is someone that I would really always look up to, because he was my second cousin. He was someone I saw in my family as someone who was not that distant. And he reached the pinnacle he did, playing on a senior team.'
Shane also made a plea for anyone in mental distress to reach out: 'Everyone knows when they have something wrong and they know they can talk to people most times,'
Yesterday, Niall Donoghue's club Kilbeacanty also paid an emotional tribute their clubman.
