Eoin McDevitt and co. will be busy men come the start of August, after the Second Captains announcement that they're extending their weekly Irish Times podcast to four shows per week.

Two of these will be football specials, while the other two will stick to the mult-sport discussion format. Speaking about the announcement, Irish Times sports editor Malachy Logan said:

Second Captains has been a significant success to date for The Irish Times ... The announcement of additional shows will only add to the reputation of the broadcasters and The Irish Times for being at the forefront of the most informed analysis of national and international sporting issues.

Presumably giving a nod and a wink to Pierce Brosnan's Emigrant Shout-Outs, Second Captains producer Mark Hogan said 'We’ve been blown away by the reaction to the show so far from our listeners at home and abroad and we can’t wait to broadcast at least four times a week from now on.'

The will of course be broadcasting a live show this evening in the Grand Social, where they have promised 'a couple of very special announcements.' We wonder is this the only news or will there be more to come?
