Five people were arrested following Wednesday night's League Cup Lancashire derby between Blackburn and Burnley at Ewood Park.
Two of those were for stepping onto the pitch during the game following Jack Cork's opening goal of Burnley's 2-0 win. One fan reportedly pushed Burnley's James Tarkowski and then grabbed Ashley Westwood by the throat.
Speaking to BBC after the game, Burnley manager Sean Dyche - who had momentarily considered entering the pitch himself to protect his players - criticised the stewarding at Ewood Park.
It seemed a long time before anyone did anything.
Our players had to eventually defend themselves and that can't be right anywhere in football.
We were going to go on because I can't have that - not to do anything ridiculous but just to say 'this can't happen'.
Four Irish players were on the pitch last night - Derrick Williams for Blackburn, Robbie Brady, Kevin Long and Jon Walters for Burnley. Brady set up Cork's goal and also scored Burnley's second.
Dyche, who said that he had feared for the safety of his players, found it bizarre that buses transporting 5,000 fans to the game were given a police escort but two fans found it so easy to make their way onto the pitch.
To think you go to the extreme [of escorting fans] and then someone just wanders onto a football pitch is a bit bizarre at least.
There's all kinds of things going on in the world, and when people get on a football pitch it has to be stopped very quickly.
That's not just this football club, that's across the board. Stewards do a terrific job but they've got to get on quick.
