Cristiano Ronaldo's interview with Piers Morgan is a remarkable watch, and we don't mean that as a compliment.
Released in two parts, it is essentially amounts to a 90-minute video of one man stroking another's ego from every possible angle.
There are no shortage of cringy quotes. Be it Ronaldo slating Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag, Gary Neville, or other Manchester United players, the lack of self awareness show by the interviewee is astounding.
Wayne Rooney, in particular, seemed to be a target for the Portuguese forward.
His former teammate had made some rather benign comments in the media about the player's behaviour this season, something that has not gone down well. The 37-year old used this 'interview' to take numerous shots at Rooney, including disparaging the end to his career and his appearance.
One comment in particular has really wound people up.
Viewers disgusted by Cristiano Ronaldo and Pier Morgan comment
It is clear that Piers Morgan was handed this interview opportunity as he was the only person who would not call out Cristiano Ronaldo's various ridiculous claims, with his odd obsession with the footballer well established at this stage.
In fact, some of the questions asked were nothing short of nauseating. This one in particular has rubbed viewers up the wrong way.
Very possibly the worst 24 seconds of television ever broadcast pic.twitter.com/vVpxz7Cyt4

Morgan: Do you have more pounds in the bank, or more Instagram followers?
Ronaldo: It's a good question. Probably similar, I don't know. Probably similar.
Morgan: I'm just working out how Wayne Rooney could hate you even more and probably that is the answer.
Ronaldo: Not only him, imagine all the rest of the rats that will criticise me too. It's good to be be still number one.
Calling a former teammate a 'rate', one who you experienced so much success with and has done nothing in this situation, is pretty despicable.
The response to the comment was a predictable one.
Honestly the most embarrassing question and answer you’ll ever listen too. https://t.co/JazVadeP3L

I'm sure who this is more embarrassing for. Piers the weirdo for asking it or Ronaldo the weirdo for his answer. https://t.co/lgBSIJHpsY

No matter what he’s gone through, he’s always been an arrogant man child who thinks too highly of himself. An absolute embarrassment to the human race, and don’t get me started on Ronaldo. https://t.co/nLv5MpdFKM

Fucking nauseating 🤢
Imagine boasting about your money and Insta followers then calling a former team mate and well respected player a rat
Ronaldo does not come out of this well at all https://t.co/tXJkm3jKRG— James Reardon 🏴 (@JamesR90) November 18, 2022
@Cristiano has shown himself to be a really shallow unlikeable character. The question is vulgar and his response equally so. https://t.co/AJdB7HPQJ1

They're not wrong.
As mentioned above, Rooney's comments about Ronaldo have actually been very measured throughout this season.
What exactly did Rooney say that was so controversial? Perfectly fair and balanced statement. pic.twitter.com/a0A1n8XLvW

This will surely mark the end of Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United.
From a club point of view, they won't be able to get him out the door quick enough.
