One comes across a lot of painful looking injuries in this job of trawling the internet day after day but this has to be one of the most painful I've ever seen.

Cincinnati pitcher Aroldis Chapman was hit in the face after throwing a 99mph ball which was hit straight back at him by Savador Perez of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The impact broke bones in his nose and left eye.

Chapman underwent surgery, where a titanium plate was inserted into his skull to help the fractures heel. This also required a shit load of staples.

After the operation he posted this photo, saying 'My fans, everything is fine, thanks to God we are already out of any kind of trouble. I'm here waiting for them to give me the release.'
