Paul Kimmage used his always tremendous Sunday Independent column today to basically take apart RTE Rugby presenter Tom McGurk and his comments about Kimmage on the Today with Sean O'Rourke show on Friday.
On the show McGurk slapped down any notion of doping in rugby - a subject that Kimmage has been touching upon these past few weeks - and left everyone in no doubt as to what he thought of Kimmage's reporting:
"It's not in the ethos of Irish rugby, and I think Paul knows more about cycling than rugby to put it politely."
Kimmage went on to recall an old interview McGurk did with one Michelle Smith and Erik De Bruin after they had returned with four medals from the European Championships in Seville in 1996. The interview reads as a fawning tribute to the duo and Kimmage ponders:
On Friday, I couldn't help wondering how he feels about it now because if it was me, and there was a skidmark like that on my career, I'd be absolutely mortified.
It's safe to say, this one isn't over.
