A version of this photo ran in today's Sun. Brennan wasn't riding the horse, so parking the barbarism of the Grand National itself for a moment, it's incredible to see just how tight the bond between man and horse is in racing.
Brennan told The Sun:
“I was just making sure he was OK. I put my arms around his neck to soothe him, telling him he was OK. It was very sad.”
