Michael Sam got a standing ovation from his fellow University of Missouri students on Saturday.
The Mizzou football team received their Cotton Bowl trophy at half-time during the Tigers' basketball game against Tennessee.
Sam was given a central role in the celebrations, and was the first player on court and the first to lift the trophy after coach Gary Pinkel.
The Westboro Baptist Church tried to hold a protest at the game, but were prevented from doing so by a human wall of students.
