Allen Pinkett is a regular on the IMG Notre Dame Radio Newtork and was a former running back for the Irish and the Houston Oilers. While discussing the team on Chicago radio on Wednesday, he made the point that the college needed " a few bad citizens" to win.
The Notre Dame Radio Network have responded to the comments by announcing Pinkett would not be in the broadcast booth for Saturday's game. In a statement they said "Notre Dame taking on Navy at the Emerald Isle Classic in Dublin is an historic game showcasing the very best of American college sports. The event deserves to be free of distraction. Further decisions on this matter will be made in the coming days."
Pinkett later apoligised for his comments and said he would accept any punishment handed out in relation to them. He appears to have been disciplined merely for a poor choice of words. He expanded upon his "citizens" remarks in the original interview by defining the type of criminals he felt a football team needed; underage drinkers and bar fighters. In other words, par for the course in most football teams. Had he referred to bad boys instead of criminals than most likely he would be taking his place in the AVIVA on Saturday.
