Ireland's squad may not be what is once was but there is certainly no shortage of options between the sticks for head coach Heimir Hallgrímsson.

Caoimhin Kelleher has seamlessly - and somewhat typically - filled in for the injured Alisson Becker at Liverpool, picking up the Man of the Match award in their Champions League win away to RB Leipzig midweek.

The Corkonian is the main man at the minute, starting Ireland's long-awaited UEFA Nations League win against Finland earlier this month before making a string of saves against Greece - late mishap or not.

Gavin Bazunu meanwhile, had the role locked down before injury came his way. He ruptured his achilleas tendon and is set to remain sidelined until 2025.

Both players were backed under Stephen Kenny and have thrived, but they weren't the first fresh faces that the former Ireland manager had opted for.

Mark Travers started Ireland's first World Cup qualifier under Kenny in a 3-2 defeat, although he was caught out from long range on the night.

A Bournemouth player since 2016, Travers has made over 100 senior appearances when you include his brief loan spells at Swindon Town and Stoke City.

The Maynooth man has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines but was brought in to cover for Kepa Arrizabalaga as his side looked to build on the momentum of their shock defeat of Arsenal.

Aston Villa away is never an easy task but Bournemouth salvaged a late 1-1 draw to claim another valuable point in the Premier League.

They had Travers to thank too, the goalkeeper producing seven saves before Evanilson netted a late equaliser for the visitors.

Head coach Andoni Iraola certainly saw it that way, singling out Travers for praise when speaking after the draw.

I think we've had especially at the beginning of the game, 15, 20 minutes where they were playing much better than us. I think we with the defenders, Mark [Travers] kept us in the game through that difficult period."

Bournemouth supporters joined their manager in celebrating the efforts of the Irishman after the result.

Former Liverpool star Stan Collymore paid his own tribute.

Reflecting on his performance, Travers told the BBC: "It was great to help the team out and, when I get called up, I try to help the team the best I can - so that's all I wanted to do today."

He will certainly have put himself on the radar of Hallgrímsson as Ireland look to get a result against both Finland and England in the Nations League next month.
