The IRFU lost out on a €2.4m prize money windfall due to Ulster and Leinster failing to reach the Heineken Cup semi-finals, with Leinster's defeat also putting paid to plans for a clash with Munster in the Aviva Stadium which would have gained the organisation €600,000 in rental fees alone.

They still have the €800,000 earner that is Munster's semi-final tie against Toulon to look forward to but it's mad how two lost matches will have a such a huge impact on the IRFU's end of year accounts. The Irish Examiner report today that of that €800,000, around two thirds will go to the IRFU, while €260,000 will go to the Munster branch.

Saturday's quarter-final win over Toulouse in Thomond Park also earned Munster a cool €800,000 at the gate.
