Back in April we told you that the Detroit Lions had signed Havard Rugland after seeing his infamous "Kickalicious" YouTube video and offering him a trial. The Norwegian hopeful had joined up with the Lions for pre-season training camp and after impressing at every opportunity he was given a shot in the Lions pre-season game against the New York Jets, taking over for veteran kicker David Akers at half time. While everybody in the stadium was hoping he would do well, he made the transition from YouTube to the NFL look relatively easy.
Rugland nailed 2 field goals, one from 49 yards and one from 50, to the delight of his team-mates. It's clear that he has become not only a fan-favourite, but a well liked member of the team. While his debut was impressive, it is unlikely that the will usurp David Akers as starting kicker due to Akers' extensive NFL résumé, but if he continues this form there is a good chance that he can find a starting job in the NFL. We're rooting for you Havard!
