The NHL acted swiftly to ban the Washington Capital's John Erskine for 3 games after his "flying elbow" attack (as the commentators call it) on the Philadelphia Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds. The referees initially missed the elbow and no penalty was given.

The ban costs Erskine $24,000.
The Capitals came from 1-2 down to win 3-2 with two goals in the third period. It's only the second win for one of the NHL's biggest teams. They host rivals Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in the game the NHL hype as the clash of its two biggest stars; Alex Ovechkin (Capitals) v Sidney Crosby (Penguins).
Mind the elbows now lads.
