It's been a bad few days for the reputation of Jose Aldo.
In the days following the fight, audio was leaked in which Joe Rogan was heard referring to Aldo's 'soft' and 'deflated' physique.
In common with many observers, Rogan was struck by how nervous Aldo seemed and could be overheard saying, 'He looks way different. I don't want to jump to any conclusions'.
On his podcast yesterday, he was moved to recall the curious story of Aldo's bizarre drug test prior to UFC 189.
Most of the details are well known.
Nevada State Athletic Commission authorised tester Ben Mosier showed up on June 11 to test Aldo. The fighter was described as 'co-operative' but the collection was halted by an unidentified coach until Aldo's head coach Andre Pederneiras arrived at the gym. Pederneiras proceeded to call the Brazilian Athletic commission.
Following this, a police officer arrived and told Mosier he had an incorrect visa and detained the collector at the gym. The rather sinister police officer gave Mosier a big spiel about poorly treated he'd been on a previous trip to America.
It was then that a local Brazilian doping officer arrived. He was of the view that Mosier had done nothing wrong and pronounced that the test should continue. However, he clashed with the Brazilian Athletic commission rep Christian Sampaio who insisted that only the Brazilian Athletic Commission be allowed collect the sample.
At this stage, the Aldo urine sample that had been taken that day had to be discarded because Mosier lost contact with it.
It wasn't until immigration officials turned up that Mosier was permitted to perform the test the following day. Aldo took the test on 12 June but it was a shambolic affair. Aldo apparently dropped the first one and had to give a second one.
This detail in particular struck Rogan.
When they finally did give a urine sample, he tripped and spilled his piss!
Rogan confirmed that in his 48 years on earth he had yet to spill a cup of his piss.
